AOKAUTERE There was the usual good attendance at the October meeting of the Aokautere W. 1., held on Wednesday, Mrs Pinfold, presiding. An interesting demonstration on the making of bouquets and sprays was given by Mrs Galland, of Palmerston North, who was later accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competition for the best spray of flowers resulted: Mrs Scott (senior) 5 Miss Etty Anderson (junior). The hostesses, who served, a very nice afternoon tea, were Mrs Lester Field, Misses Enid Orr and M. Anderson. Members were later initiated into the delights of the old-time “log-cabin” dance, which concluded a very pleasant afternoon. MILSON There was a large attendance at the October meeting of the Milson Women's Institute, Mrs F. G. Murphy presiding. After some discussion it was decided to join in with the Longbum. group, Mesdames Murphy and Templeton, being appointed delegates to attend group meetings. Potatoes were distributed among members who have entered for the potato-growing competition. Mesdames Henderson, and King were appointed delegates to attend the half-yearly federation council meeting, to be held at Pahiatua. this month. Arrangements were finalised for a "hardup” social and dance, to'bo held next weok. At tho conclusion of the business Mrs Buchanan, of Bainesse, gave an interesting demonstration on pinencedlo work, several members starting articles. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Buchanan. Tho competition for the day for a vase of spring flowers was won by Mts Harvey, Miss D’Ath second and Mrs Whitehead third. A musical competition was won by Mrs Houten and Mrs Grey, four ladies being placed second. A play reading by members of the drama circle was well received, those taking part being Mcsdames Sinclair and King and Misses Robinson and Munro. The programme for the November meeting will include a demonstration by Mrs E. Short, a competition for a plain sponge with filling, and a roll call. Afternoon tea was served by tho hostesses, Mesdames Oliver, Norris, King Dewhurst, Robbie, Mills, Fechan and Miss Munro, and the meeting was closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
