Dominion Bay Celebrated in Sydney

New Zealanders should bo pleased to learn that Dominion Day was celebrated with appropriate honours on the evening of September 2G, states a Sydney correspondent. The function was organised by tho Now Zealand Women’s Association of New South Wales, and it took the form of a ball given at the State Assembly room. It is proposed to make this festivity an annual event, and the proceeds are to be devoted to the support of tho Karitane Mothercraft Training College. The ballroom was decorated with many Now Zealand flags and the silver fern played a prominent part in tho display.

When his Excellency and Lady Ganc arrived they were welcomed with a Alaori halca danced “with tremendous vim” by members of the younger set, clad appropriately in the flax piupiu for the occasion. A waiata poi was also performed by a number of girls, led by Princess Wiki, who, with Aliss Wai Tipcno, was conspicuous in the hakas as well. Two grotesque Maori gods guarded the ballroom entrance. Evidently there was plenty of “local colour” imported for the occasion, and the whole celebration appears to have been most, successful. With the Government House party came our trade commissioner, Air L. J. Schmitt, and Atrs Schmitt; Mr Blow, of the Tourist Department; Sir Henry and Lady Braddon; Sir Benjamin and Lady Fuller, Sir Harry and Lady Julius and Mr and Mrs Eric Baume. Alany delightful memories of New Zealand were revived in Sydney this year on tho evening of Dominion Day.
