Two New Zealand penny carmine stamps on a letter sent by a soldier in New Zealand in 1855 to his mother *n Northumberland, realised £lls at Harmer’s auction. The ordinary postage was a shilling, but soldiers were privileged to pay twopence. A New Zealand threepenny lilac 1862, whereof the only other known copy .is in France, brought £240. A shilling yellow of 1855 brought £3OO.
