MRS. GUY WILLIAMS AT HOKOWHITU.
Mrs. Guy Williams, former president, of the New Zealand Ladies' Golf Council, came over from Masterton yesterday to.seo the championship iinai between Miss-Oliver Kay and Miss Bessie Gaisford at Hokowhitu. Mrs. Williams holds a unique place among New Zealand lady golfers, having held the Now Zealand championship iivo times and practically all tho provincial championships as well. With her wide expori-'' once and knowledge of the gamo no better person could have been chosen to captain tho ladies' team that visited Australia recently. Chatting with a Times representative yesterday, Mrs. Williams said she had been very proud of her team. Misses Kay and Gaisford had played outstandingly good golf and it was much to their credit that each in turn had beaten Miss Susie Tolhurst, recognised as Australia's lowest handicap lady playor. Mrs. Williams said the Australian courses, although not so heavily bunkered as many in New Zealand, wero long and this length made it hard for low scoring for players who did not take tho direct line to the greens. Australian golfers had been greatly impressed with tho two young Now Zealanders —with. Miss Gaisford's perfect stylo and tho fact, that Miss Kay had justified her remarkable handicap of plus 2 in tho rounds played. Tho other two members of the team had done well, although it was unfortunate that influenza had claimed them as victims. Mrs. Templer had. to credit a round of 76 at Kensington, only one over tho scratch score. One of the most interesting and exciting games had been the mixed foursome championship, in which Miss Kay had boon partnered by Mr. Jim Perrier, tho 18-year-old Australian golfer. Although playing conditions had not been good theso two won easily their morning round of 74 being a record for the course.
