Feilding Bowling Season

OROUA CLUB’S OPENING RECORD REPRESENTATION 1 Both the popularity of the club as well as the eagerness of bowlers to get busy on their summer recreation made for the record representation at the official opening of the Oroua Bowling Club’s season at Feilding on Saturday afternoon, when 11 visiting rinks swelled the attendance of members, their wives and visitors. The overcast weather with a, high wind was forgotten in the enthusiasm which permeated the gathering and with th 6 threat of rain no time was lost in getting down to play. Light rain threatened soon after tho games commenced but held off to enable a. full green to enjoy tho interesting contests. For so early in the season the green was in capital order.

Mr. C. B. Aitken, president, cordially welcomed the visitors, stating that the Oroua Club felt it an honour to entertaiu such a record gathering of visiting rinks. It certainly augured well for a successful season and he wished the visitors a happy afternoon. At tho invitation of Mr. Aitken, Mrs. Aitken threw up the first jack amidst enthusiastic cheering. Tho Mayor, Mr. C. E. Taylor, who was accompanied by Mrs. Taylor, also addressed the gathering and was happy to remark on the very widespread interest manifested in the game. Ho had watched the progress of the Oroua Club and congratulated its members upon possessing sueb. a splendid green as well as the beautiful garden surroundings. The speaker paid a tribute to Mr. Edmund Goodbehere who was one of the prime movers in the founding of the club, and concluded in wishing the club a successful season.
