Tennis in Feilding
ST. PAUL’S CLUB OPENING The distinction of introducing the 1933-34 tennis season in Feilding goes to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Club whose members, supported by visitors from neighbouring and Palmerston North clubs, gathered at the courts on Saturday afternoon to take part in the official opening. The Rev. D. E. McDonald (president.) welcomed the visitors, stating that, he was happy to see. such a representative gathering eager to pa.rtako of the recreation the game offered. Thanks to the efforts of an energetic committee, the courts were in splendid order and with a strong membership lie felt, that the club was entering upon a successful season. He. had pleasure in declaring the season open and invited Mr. and Mrs. A. Duthie to open the play. Applause greeted the vice-president, and Mrs. Duthie as they made the initial service of the season. The vsitors present included Mr. F. Bartholomew, a vice-president of the club and one who has done much to promote its welfare. Games were played throughout the afternoon until rain commenced to fail soon after 5 o’clock. All thoroughly enjoyed the first of the new season's play. During the afternoon an interval was called for refreshments which were served in lire Church hall under the supervision of Miss Joan Watts, the popular secretary, and a committee of ladies.
The rain which fell over the week end rendered it necessary for fcst Brigid’s Club to postpone its opening,
