How They Ran

Kimho Makes Amends Kimbo appeared to have the hurdles won the first day, when a faulty jump at the last fence cost him his chance. Ho made amends on Saturday, and the punters who stuck to him were rewarded with quite a nice price. High Society, after his convincing win at Foxton, was in strong demand, but his jumping was not as good as at Poston and, after being with Kimho and Revision at the homo turn, he tired and finished third a good way hack. High Society, Revision, Palace, Kimho, Pal eta, and Miss Energetic was the order through tho straight the first time, but Revision and Kimbo had headed High Society five furlongs from home. Then Kimbo jumped to the front, but Revision and High Society were on his quarters as they turned into the straight. Rovision led over the last fence, but Kimbo soon settled her and he went on to win by over two lengths from Revision. High Society was four lengths further back, followed by Paleta and Palace. Etiquette Had Something in Reserve to Beat Prostration Etiquette, Prostration and Hunting Lodge carried most monoy in the Trial. Plate, and they finished in that order ahead of Arctic Region, Maine and Pheon. Arauline and Aweketia caused considerable delay mt the barrier, and when the tapes went up it was Pheon and Maypay that got tho worst of itEtiquette, Prostration and Hunting Lodge were first to 3how out ahead of Arctic Region and Maine. Hunting Lodge soon, joined Etiquette in the van, and they led into the straight ahead of Prostration, Arotic Region, Maine and Arauline. Etiquette waa going along well when Prostration issued a. determined challenge. It. looked as if Prostration would -win, but Broughton kept something in reserve and be put in a. dab just short of the post which landed Etiquette a winner by a short head. Hunting Lodge, just ahead of Arctic Region, was two lengths away from. Prostration. Maine was fifth and Pheon next in order. Epigram Beaten By Bonnie Vale Epigram was a firm favourite for tho Otaki Hack, but he was beaten into second place by Bonnie VaJe, who showed a, return to winning form in her race the first day. Epigram was first to break the line, and he led along the back from Bonnie Vale, Pegged Exchange and Bott.wyscoed j with Princess Dawn at. the head of the others. At the five furlongs Bettwyscoed went to the front, and she led across the top from Pegged Exchange, Epigram, Bonnie Vale, Princess Darvn, Yvette, and Vast elan cl. Running to the home turn, Bonnie Va.le improved her position, and she and Pegged Exchange were on terms with Bettwyscoed as they turned, into the straight. Epigram was next 'attended by Wasteland, In the run to the judge Bonnie Vale soon hit the front and she went on to win well by over a length from Epigram. Wasteland was a similar distance away third and Bettwyscoed was fourth, followed by Princess Dawn and Pegged Exchange. Plateau Wins a Double The public preferred Takakua to Plateau and Gold Trail in the Memorial Stakes, but Plateau repeated his first, day’s performance to take the major honours of the race. Saltpot was first out, and he led through the straight from Plateau, Gold Trail, Takakua, Brambletorn and Retract, the last-named, beiug well back. Tho order into the back was unchanged, and running to tho far turn Saltpot and Plateau were bowling along a couple of lengths in front, of Takakua and Gold Trail. Retract was well back but, was beginning to make up some ground. There was no ebongo iuto the straight, and as soon as they straightened up, Morris gave Plateau a. bit of a. shake up and ho drew out. Takakua, then issued a challenge, but Plateau, doing his work nicely, was still half a length to the good when the post was reached. Thrco lengths back came Brambletom, just ahead of Saltpot, with Gold Trail next, Acceptable Price for Punters Haulbowline and Boon carried most support in tho Pukekaraka Hack, but Broughton came to light again, this time on Acceptable, which was fourth in tho betting order. Haulbowline was first to break the line, and ho led out from. Lackston, Acrelict, Boon and Acceptable. After a furlong Acccpable was sotting tho pace from Haulbowlino and Acrelict, and these were the leaders crossing the top. Acceptable was two lengths ahead of Haulbowline at tho home turn, and Acrelict was three lengths away, ahead of Lackston and Boon. Accoptablo never looked like stopping, and he -won by c. length from. Haulbowline, with Acrelict five lengths back third. Lackston was fourth, followed by Ma. Cherie and Boon. Acrelict was lame when he returned to the birdcage, Three-Horse Rates Navaho was a, short-priced favourite for the open sprint, the other starters being Arrow Lad and Sir Pombal. Sir Pombal got a flying start, but before they had gone two furlongs Navaho and Arrow Lad had headed him, the trio crossing the top at length intervals, There was no alteration iuto the straight, where Navaho soon put the issue beyond doubt for he finished on

the bit to beat Sir Pombal by over a length. Arrow Lad was the best part of a length further back. Navaho won well, but the surprising part of the race was the fact that Pine, on Sir Pombal,, made little or no effort- to make use of his flying start. The official time of tho race was 1.19 2-5, but the correct time was more like 1.15 2-5. Questioned after -tho race, Pino said ho was under the impression that tho start had been a false one, and that he had slowed down Sir Pombal. Hazoor Pays a, Price Hazoor was at a doublo-iigure price for tho Rahui Hack, and lie accounted for Tranquillity, Royal Dash and AVhetuma in a blanket finish. Royal Dash and Quebec made the early play, but along the back Te Ua went to the front to lead across the top from Royal Dash and Tranquillity, Quebec Whetuma and Hazoor. This was the order into tho straight, and in a splendid finish Hazoor swept up on the outer to win by half a, length from Tranquillity. Royal Da,sh was third a head away and Wheiuma a loare half length, further away. The next to finish wore Te Da, Mercian Prince and Mon Roi. Atholspear Pays Good Price

All started in the concluding event, which was won by the little-fancied Atliolspear from Equit?nt and Esteem. Lady Spy and La Poupee carried most money but they never looked likely. Aston and Esteem ware the first to show out, and they were followed down the back by Equitant and Lady Spy. Esteem took charge across the top to lead into .the straight from Equitant and Lady Spy, with Atliolspear closing up, and a good finish resulted in a. win for Atliolspear, which came up on the outer to beat Equitant by a neck. Esteem was in front passing the outside stand, but he could do no better than third, a length away from Equitant. Lady Spy was fourth.
