From Our Oavu Correspondent The monthly meeting of the AVaiala Women’s Institute was held on Saturday afternoon, Mrs. B. McLeod presiding OA'er a good attendance. Two new members, Mrs. Mulholland and Mrs. AVeston, were Avelcomed, also Miss Mona Jensen, wiio attended as a visitor. The roll call, “A useful household hint,” brought fourth many ideas. Mrs. Hall, of Coiyton, gave a most instructive demonstration on cane basket and tray making Avhich AA'as followed Avith keen interest. Mrs. Hall presented one of the trays to the institute to be competed for at a later date, Mrs. McLeod expressed the thanks of tho institute to Mrs. I-lall for her interesting demonstration. A musical switch competition Avas most enjoyable, the Avinner being Mrs. Hight. Mrs. de Voile presided at the piano. Dainty afternoon tea Avas dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames Gore and RedshaAv and Miss Frazer. At the next meeting a competition Avill bo held for a plate of pikelets. Euchre Party. Tho fortnightly euchre party in aid of school funds Avas held on Friday evening. There Avas an exceptionally large attendance, including a number of visitors from other districts. A very pleasant evening’s play resulted in the ladies' trophy being annexed by Mrs. FitzAvatcr Aviio Avon on a replay from Mrs. .10. Biliett, Mrs. RedshaAv, Miss J. RedsbaAV, Miss Heneghan and Miss A. Mulholland. The consolation prize Avas awarded to Miss AV. DaAvson. In t.he men’s section, Mr. C. Fitzwater Avon the first prize and Mr. J. RedshaAv the consolation. After supper had been served, community singing preceded tho closing of a very enjoyable evening. The ladies’ trophy was donated by Mrs. Rolston.
