POHANGINA The hall again presented a gay and festive appearance last Wednesday with, tho many bowla and vases of spring flowers of varied hues and the baskets of beautiful native foliage. At the beginning of the meeting a vote of sympathy was passed with Miss Doris Watson on the death of her sisteT. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Blixt and tho Misses Roberts, Blixt and Howell. Mrs Sinclair and Mrs Stevens wore appointed as delegates to tho halfyearly council meeting to be held at Pahiatua. A resolution was passed in. favour of supporting the Farmers’ Queen, and Miss Balmer and Mrs Sinclair were appointed to attend tho meeting hold in the local hall last. Saturday evening. A pleasing event of the afternoon was the giving out of programmes to the members showing what will be done at the institute meetings for the next six months. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Stevens for typing same. Mrs W. Coombs kindly judged the flowers and foliage and performed her difficult task with satisfaction to all. The results were as follow: — Seniors: Bowl, Miss Macdonald 1, Mrs Howell 2, Mrs Spelman 3; vase, Mrs Spelman I', Mrs Howell 2, Miss Balmer 3. Juniors: Bowl, Mies Caldwell 1, Miss Tews 2, Miss Sinclair 3; vase, Miss Sinclair 1, Miss Tews 2, Miss Watson 3. Basket of native flowers and foliage: Mrs Spelman 3., Miss Macdonald 2, Miss Balmer 3. While afternoon tea was being served Miss Ann Roberts gave a pianoforte solo. Songs were afterwards rendered by Mesdames C. Spelman, D. Balmer, Orgias and Stuart. The singing of the National Anthem brought another enjoyable afternoon to a close.
