Miss Betty Mcßae returned from Wellington to Palmerston North at the week-end, and has with her as her guest Mrs W. Pritchard, of Wellington.

The late Dr. Annie Bcsunt was greatly interested in the Boy Scout movement in India and was appointed Chiof Scout by Lord Baden-Powell. Ho also presented her with the decoration of tho Silver Wolf.

Mrs Lawson, wife of Mr A. G. Lawson, manager of tho Palmerston. North branch of the Bank of Australasia, received the sad news of the doath of her sister, Mrs Paulgor, which occurred at Raetihi yesterday.

Mrs W. P. Endcan, wife of Mr W. P. Endean, M.P., became suddenly ill whilo travelling from Wclington to Auckland by the limitod express on Friday night. On arrival at Auckland |on Saturday morning she was taken to a privato hospital and she was later [able to return to her home.

A former resident of this district, in the person of Mrs J. D. McKechnie, passed away at her homo in Geraldine on October 6. Tho late Mrs McKechnie was better known by the early residents of Eeilding, Ashhurst, and Sanson as Miss Mary Crichton, a. daughter of the lato Mr George Crichton, who at different periods was engaged in business in Wellington, Feilding, and Ashhurst. Pioneers of the district will remember that tho late Mr George Crichton came to New Zealand from Glasgow somewhere about 60 years ago, with his wife and a family of nine children, of whom Mrs McKechnie was one. The family having lived for many years in the before-mentioned localities, became widely known and highly respected. During her early life Mrs McKechnie was associated with hot father in business, and later became postmistress at Kimbolton, holding that position for several years in the early part of this century, and resigning when she was about to marry. Being possessed of a kindly, genial, and happy disposition, she became deservedly popular with all who knew her. Besides her husband, Mrs McKechnie loaves two children—a son (Douglas, aged 21) and daughter (Joan, aged .17)—to mourn their loss. She is also survived by two members of tho Crichton family—Mrs E. Palmer (of Palmerston North) and Mrs C. £5. Skclley (of Carterton).
