Cawthron Institute
NEW DIRECTOR APPOINTED. Per Press Association. NELSON, Oct. 10. Mr Theodore Rigg has been appointed Director of the Cawfhron Institute, in succession to Professor Easterfielu.
Mr Rigg was assistant director of the Institute and chief of its agricultural department. He was born in Yorkshire, but educated in New Zealand, and became cmploy-ed in the laboratory of the Agricultural Department. He graduated as B.Sc. in 1910 and advanced to M.Sc., with first class honours in chemistry, in the following y-ear. He was a winner of the 1851 Exhibition Scholarship and the Jacob Joseph Research scholarship. In 1914 he went to Cambridge on research work. He also attained the degree of M.A. and a Fellowship of the Institute of Chemistry. During the War he was associated with the humanitarian work of the Society of Friends in France, Montenegro and Russia. In 1926 he was appointed to the N.Z. Researcli Council, and in the next year he was delegate to the International Soil Congress and the Imperial Agricultural Conference. Mr Rigg has had many writings published.
