XMAS NUMBER, 1933. Each year this annual achieves a very large circulation, and numerous readers, both in New Zealand and abroad, will be assured, in the present issue, of a, production full of interest from a pictorial point of view. The native kingfisher has been chosen as tho subject of tho cover design, and the glorious blue of its plumago gleams most effectively above the waters of a lake, backed by hazy mountains. Two colour-plates are included in the number. In the first, ten of New Zealand’s native flowers —red and yellow kowhai, mountain buttercups, rata, ti-tree, lacebark, purplo koromiko, ground orchid, dahpne and pohut-ukawa —are attractively reproduced in their natural colours. In tho second plate the Wanganui River makes a subject worthy of a frame, tho verdant green of tho bush in the background coming down to meet the smooth water. A barque in full sail opens the tinted section-, which, contitfins scenic gems covering beauty-spots to be found all through the Dominion. The romantic aspect of Native life in New Zealand has been captured by the camera in a study of a Maori youth and maiden at Rotorua, while there aro also other Maori pictures. There aro many beach and boating scenes, while pictures of trout-fishing, camping, hunting, etc., bear eloquent, 'testimony to the 11ariwalled sporting attractions which the Dominion has to offer,
