From Our Own Correspondent. An enjoyable afternoon was spent on the Halcombc recreation ground on Wednesday when a sports meeting was held In aid of the local Tennis Club. There was quite a good attendance of the public and sporting events, competitions and games were kept going during the afternoon. The following were the winners of the different events:— 75 yards (single ladies): Miss F. Hughes 1, Miss M. Bush 2. 100 yards (single men): A. Bush 1, W. Bush 2. Sack race: L. Clapham 1, B. Ciapha'm Boys’ race (under S years): IT. Anderson 1, G. Wapp 2. Girls (under 7): Betty Elgar 1, Ngaire Wischnowsky 2. Seven-aside football: Tokorangi-Stan-way 14 beat Halcombe 3. 100 yards (boys under 14): S. Miller 1, D. McNae 2. Girls (under 11): June Bush 1, Moira Hutton 2. Boys (urider 11): lan Fergusson 1, D. McNae 2. Girls (under 14): Moira Hutton 1, M. ■Hackett 2. Married men’s race: J. Bush 1 (special prize donated by Mr. G. Nicol), F. M. Saywell .2. Married ladies' race: Mrs. E. Christian 1, Mrs. L. Davies 2. Boys’ sack race: Eric Judd 1, It. McNae 2. Cigarette race: Ira Owen and Miss Flavin 1, W. Dais and Miss F. Hughes dead heat with G. Robinson and Miss E. Miller for second place. Men’s nail driving: D. C. Managh (special prize donated by Mr. W. A. Alsop) 1. Quoits: R. Dais 1. Ladies’ nail driving: Mrs. J. D. Anderson 1.

Iri the evening a euchre party and hard-up dance was held, the proceeds from which were also in aid of the Tennis Club. Cards and dancing were enjoyed by those present until a late hour. The prize for the best liard-up costume was won by Miss B. Managh, the euchre prizes beiDg won by the following:— Ladies: Mrs. R. Anderson (special prize donated by Messrs Garner and Garner): consolation, Mrs. J. D. Anderson. Men: Mr. C. Campbell: consolation, Mr. R. A. Anderson. Mr. J. McKenzie, late of the Halcombe Post Office staff, was a visitor to Halcombe during the week.
