From Our Own Correspondent School Cimmittee Meeting. On Monday of this week the school committee met, those present being Messrs. M. Jil. Knudseu (chairman), J. cStuart (secretary), A. Harrowiieid, JL. Neweombe, D. Creaswell, and H. W. Woou, (head teacher). The chairman reported that the scnuoi Agricultural Shield, which was won last >tiir by Whakarongo School, had been inscribed and subsequently returned to the school. The environment ceruheate, first won by the school some years ago, had been endorsed lor last year. Tnanks were conveyed to two menuers of the committee, Messrs. Harrowheld and Neweombe, wno had trimmed the front hedges. Correspondence irom tne Dental Clinic was left wifrh the secretary to deal with. The Tennis Club wrote asking for tlio co-operation of the school committee in holding a garden party in the school grounds late in March. The proceeds will be handed to tho school) carnival queen candidate. The school i committee decided to co-operate and a combined meeting will be held next week. The secretary was instructed to write to the Kairanga County Council asking that the drains in front of the school grounds and residence bo attended to. Mr A. Harrowfield's offer to cut the long grass in the school playground was received with thanks. A man is to be put to work on tho school shrubbery and fawns one day a week. Messrs, ilarrowfleld and Cress-! well wero appointed the visiting commit-* teo for the month. The next meeting will be held on April 5. Discussions regarding the school picnic occupied some Lime. This year tho school and Women's Institute intend to combine and deiinite arrangements will shortly be made, it is to be held In the Ashliursl Domain on the first Saturday after school resumes, providing all arrangements can be made. evening functions, and it was with that in view that the hall committee met this week. Those present were Messrs H. Gore (chairman), A. Crawford (secretary), J. Morris, W. and 1. Vautier. H. Crawford, G. Romley, R. Gore, and P. Christiansen.. The committee decided that the time was now ripe to re-commence the’ euchre evenings, and the first will take; place on the first Tuesday In Mar ia, l'f.e' evening will be run in the same manner as last year. Tho annual meeting of the euchre shield executive representatives will take place In the local hail in March and kindred halls will be notified in due course. A round of applause greeted the announcement that the hall is now freehold. The chairman and secretary's action in releasing the existing guarantors was endorsed. General and Personal. Miss M. Vautier has returned from a visit to her brother and his family in Rongotea. Visitors from Auckland staying with Mrs R. G. Scott, are Mesdames A. W. Bird and Menzies. Windy Whakarongo, is quite a common phrase these days. Despite this unpleasantness, days have been mild in temperature and tennis enthusiasts have got to work keenly to play off their matches. There now remains only a few in tho first round of the tournament. . Mr Ken. Puklowski is now out of hospital and is progressing well. Tho school ground, with its surrounding lawns and hedges clipped and mown, Is looking particularly neat at present. The gay showing of beautiful hydrangeas' Is now quite over, however. I Mr and .Mrs S. Oxenham have the former's brother and his wife, from Wellington, staying with them at Te Matai for a lew days. The C grade tennis team will play in the city on Saturday, those required being Misses M. Sly, C. Vautier, M. Hodgson, I. Johanseen, Messrs F. Greeve, I. Vautier, H. Gore, P. Koehler; emergencies: Miss VV. Vautier and Bainbridge. The district extends its sympathy to the family of the late Mr Hemmlngs, of Umutoi. The deceased met his death as the result of an accident which occurred outside Mr J. McCool's farm.
