MEMBERS OF WAIPAWA HOSPITAL BOARD IN i REVIEWED. (Special to “Times.”) 4 WAIPUKURAU, Feb. 19.■ Resignations have, been received from two members of l he Waipawa Uojh 'pital Board. They are Mr fi, JL. deputy-chairman of tho aboard, and Mr B. J. Atkins. Other mfiiahfirs of board, when interviewed toy a “Times#’ representative to-day gave Only statements as to their own positions in regard to the matter, though one member, Mr W. Matthews said that he would not go until the ratepayers “kicked him out.’ ’ Mr W. H. Rathbone said that ifb understood it to be correct that these two members of tho board had resigned. Further than that he had nothing to say, except that he would make a. statement at the meeting of the ooaed; “All you can say is that I'm not j going to resign,” said Mr Matthews, the Waipukurau County representative on the board, when making a statement to the press this biorniug. “Borne Of tho others have gone—well let them. I’m prepared to stand by my guns and do what I believe to be in the best interests of the ratepayers. When they kick me out I'll go, but I’m not going t to resign.” ' Other statements w-ere: Mr H. W. White: “No comments to make.” Mr D. Eddy: 4 ‘l am definitely n#]t resigning.” Mr T. P. Hunter: “I prefer to sAJ" nothing.” Mr L. Glenny: “I have nothing to say.’ ’ Mr Hawthorn Asks for inquiry. “In the first jdace I want it to be < clearly understood that 1 do not resign from my position on the board till this matter is cleared up,” Mr N. G. Hawthorn told a “Times” representative I when making an official statement tx§day. | 4 ‘ The reason is obvious. If I were to resign now it would look as if 1 wer'e trying to dodge the consequences of spmo misdeods. | “I am willing, however, to resign its I soon as this matter is cleared up if the public wants me to. I have rung the I Hospital Board's office and made formal application for this matter to be sifted by an official or public inquiry. “It is really for tho department to say whether it is to be an ordinary official inquiry or a public one. I do not care which it is. j 4 ‘ The only thing 1 would like to add < is that this application I have made for :an inquiry would probably not hare j boon necessary iL the discussion at thie meeting on Wednesday had been taken jiu open board.
