Feilding Borough Affairs
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL The Feilding Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. T. L. Seddon) presiding. There were ulso present; Councillors A. C. McCorkindale, A. G. Buist, P. B. Desmond, V. E. Smith, R. Burne, C. B. McClure, I’. G. Guy and H. J. Diwvo. Cr. AJcCorkiudalo was appointed to represent the council on the electoral committee to elect a local bodies’ representative on the Board of Managers of the Feilding Agricultural High School. The council turned down a proposal of tho Clmmbor of Commerce for beautifying a vacant privately-owned section located at tho corner of Fergusson and Stafford Streets. The Mayor explained that the council could not assume any financial responsibility lor beautifying tho section as its commitments did not permit of any additional expenditure on reserves. The resignation ot' Mrs. Pike, who bus beep in charge of the ladies’ rest room for the past 16 years was received with regret and the matter of filling the vacancy was referred to the finance committee.
Approval was accorded recommendations for certain adjustments regarding burial plots for children. The Feilding Plunket Society wrote, thanking the council for its financial grant.
Discussing finances, the Mayor stated that the office staff of the borough had been busy preparing the rates and the demands had now been completed. The bank overdraft stood at £5787 12s Bd, compared with £2840 at the same time last year. The delay in preparing the rate demands had been unavoidable and was due to the hold-up of the now assessments following the revaluation of tho borough. Mr. Seddon hoped that ratepayers would assist the council by making every effort to pay their rates as early as possible.
It was announced that the Main Highways Board had placed orders for the requisite machinery for the council’s crushing plant and it was explained that this would arrive in a few days.
The council agreed to take action towards putting a stop to indiscriminate shooting at the council’s rubbish dump.
