RECORD TOTE FIGURES
HOLIDAY RACE MEETINGS Wellington. This Day. The sum of £1.950.008 10s was invested on the totalisator at racing and trotting meetings held throughout the Dominion during the holiday period. This figure shows an increase of £169.058 10s over the total invested during the corresponding period last year. There were two extra fixtures — one racing and one trotting—this year and these tended to swell the increased investments. The largest increase at any centre I was recorded at Auckland, where the investments at the Ellerslie races were £53.087 10s in excess of last years amotint. A substantial increase of £45.449 was also registered at the Auckland trotting meeting. The total investments at the two Auckland meetings were £943.975 10s, compared with £845.389 last year. The following table gives a comparison of the totalisator returns for the Christmas and New Year period with those of last year :
