WEEKLY SUMMARY. The weather during the past 'week has been very unsettled, tho wind prevailing from the Westward mid South West, accompanied by heavy squalls of

Shipping business has beon rather slack, both foreign arrivals aud departures being limited. Tho arrivals wore, on Sunday night last, the N.Z.S.N. Co. a s.s. \y ellington, Captain Thompson, from the South, with mails, passengers, ifce.; this vessel was seijt up by the Government in the room of the Lard Ashley, that boat requiring to proceed 'to Sydney for overhaul, repairs, &o. Oil Monday, the barquo Lombard, Captain Wolfe, arrived at the Tamaki from Gladstone, Queensland, with a cargo of cattle for the contractor, and in tho course of the day was followed into port by tho barque Eliza Shairp, Capt. W. Gay (formerly of the Aurifera), bringing a cargo of 4GB torn oa'E, consigned to Messrs J. 8. Macfarlano and Co. ; the Eliza Shaifp made tho passage in 55 days, and brought news of tho arrival of the Bhip Francis Henty, hence, at California, but we regret to sav no tidings the missing barque Trieste, now given up for lost. On Tuesday, the P.N-Z. and A.R-.M. Oo.'s ss. Auckland, Captain Hagley, cahlo iii from Southern ports, with cargo and passengers t and on Thursday the s.s. Beautiful (Star, Oiptr.in Morwick, arrived from Napier, with a cargo of 1,0.10 sheep. The departures have been on Monday last the new schooner ICenilworth, Captain McKenzie, fdr New Caledonia, with sundries ; on Tuesday, the P.N.Z. aud A.R.M. Oo.'s s.s. Prince Alfred, Captain Macbin, for Sydney 'with the English Mails cargo, Bpecie, &c., and bO p'-isscngnvs, and fine ship Liverpool, Captan McEwen, for Callao, in ballast-, and 17 passengers. On Thursday tho N.Z.B.N. Co.'s s.s. Wellington, Captain Thompson, sailed for Southern Ports, with cargo and passengers, and was followed yesterday by the P.N.Z. and A,R,M. Co.'s s.s. Auckland, Captain Hagley.

Several vessels are ready for sea, and will sail early, the most prominent of which is tho Mary Shepherd, Captain Croot, for Spithead. Tho ship was finally inspected and passed by a board of otticcrs on Wednesday Inst, when everything pro vided on board was found to be highly satisfactory, more especially the fittings, which Te'i\ected the highest credit upon the contractor, Mr. Duthie, Customhouse-Btreet. Ihe heavy baggage will be shipped to-day, the left wing of the 40th regiment, numbering 336 rank and file, and 18 officers, in command of Lieut. Col.Blythe, will embark on board on Monday, and the ship will sail on Tuesday morning. When "the Mary Shepherd sails we shall not have a single English ship in harbour.

News has been received during the week of the total wreck of the schooner Morning Star, Captain Hayes, from Wangaroa bound to this port; she missed stays twice off Stevenson's Island, <vent ashore on the vocks, and soon became a total wreck ; no lives wore lost, and the vessel whs uninsured.

We have also bad tidings of the wreck of two cutters on the West Coast; one was sighted by the p.s. Princo Alfred on Saturday last, between Kaipara and tho Manukau, dismasted and abandoned; she was about 40 tons, and timber laden. The other wreck was washed ashore at the Pollockshaw settlement on Monday last, and from her description and the tonnage marked in tho hatchway, we fear it is the Quickstep. Captain Fisher, from the Manukau bound to the Grey River. Fears have for some time past been entertained regarding this vessel'B safety, she being a long time out, and nothing heard of her.

Mr. Hutchinson's new schooner Stanley, Captain Hannibal Marks, had a narrow escape from being lost whilst cn her passage to Taranaki, and put back to Onehunga 011 Tuesday last dismasted.

Another fie addition to our coasting fleet has been made during the week I y tho launch on Thursday last fro 11 the yards of Messrs. Sims and Brown, North Shore, of a fine cutter of 30 tons, built to the order of the Great Barrier Mining Company. The Alexandra is now 107 and the of the North 92 days out from London, and they may therefore be hourly looked for, ns also several overdue Colonial traders.
