DOWIE'S CAMPAIGN.
ROWDY MEETING IN MELBOURNE.
MELBOURNE, February 29,
Dr J. A. Dowie, tho founder of Zion City, had a hostile reception at the opening of his campaign in tho Exhibition building, where several thousand persons had gathered. Despite tho fact that admission was onlv by ticket, and that thirty-three constables wore inside tho building to preserve tho peace, a largo rowdy element took possession and broke up tho afternoon mooting
Owing to this demonstration tho night mooting was abandoned. Dr Dowie told an interviewer that tho disturbances were tho outcome of a Masonic plot, and will do Australia a lot of harm. “Suppose Igo away and describe what happened,” ho said, “it will injure Australia's credit with tho bondholders.” Ho added that ho intended abandoning night mootings.unless ho got adequate protection, which might ,ncau calling on’t tho military.
