CHARGE 0E ATTEMPTED MURDER. PEESS ASSOCIATION. REEFTON. February 29. A sensational occurrence _ is reported from Boatman’s. Last evening two men named Watt and Ryan, occupying one lint, quarrelled qver tho possession of a letter which the former was reading. Ryan claimed it as his, but Watt refused to give it up, whereupon the former rushed at AVntt, brandishing a razor, and threatening to cut his throat unless tho letter was handed over. Watt, still refused compliance, and a struggle ensued, resulting in Ryan inflicting with the razor a deep wound four inches long in Watt's throat. A doctor and the police were telephoned for immediately, and nremptly arrived. Tho doctor, after attending to tho wound, pronounced it serious, bufnot actually daugerouc. Watt was conveyed to Reefton Hospital, and Ryan was placed Under arrest on a charge of attempted murder. He was brought before the Court this morning and remanded for a week.
