Oamaru Caledonian Society.
A meeting of tho Caledonian Society was held last Dight in tho County Council Chambers, there being present: Messrs Watson (chair), Procter, Brown, Sinclair, M'Lennan, Moss, M'Lean, Macdonald, Brims, Blair, LaD£f, Christie, and Fairley. The minuces of tne previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr J W. Liddell wrote asking that the quoits competition should not be struck out of the programme as had been proposed. It was a very old feature of the programme and fully as well competed for as many others. Mr F. Ongley forwarded the names of seven who intended to compete in tho quoits and mentioned that there were others likely to ba competing. The Revising Committee's report was considered ser : atim : 1. That the quoits competition be struck out. It was resolved to retain tho competition. 2. That gymnastic competitions be included in next year's programme for adults, also that competitions bo hold for children attending the public schools in the country. Referred to the Programmo Committee. 3. That more events for running be included in next year's programme. This was agreed to. 4. That a sweepstake for ball and hammer competition be included in the 1899 programme. Decided that should sufficient entries be received to adopt the recommendation, 5. That in future the programmes of games be issued in time for distribution at tho show in November.
Resolved to recommend this course for next year. 6. That a relay football race and fancy dress bicycle race be added to tho programme. Referred to the Programmo Committee. 7. That a three-legged race be included in the programme. The recommendation was adopted. 8. That the prize for bagpipes bo awarded on the two days' playing—only one sot of prizes. Af'er some discussion it was resolved to refer the matter to tho Programme Committee for report. 9. That the same course be adopted with regard to the running and walking prizes. deferred to the Programme Committee.
The following Committees were appointed : Programme Committee: Messrs Bee (convener), J. M. Brown, Moss. Aitken, Potter, M'Lennan, A. J. Grave, Sinclair, M'Loan, Dalgleish, Sutherland, D. Brown, Gardiner, Reid, Macdonald, Proofcer and Lang. Carnival Committee: Messrs Mobs (convener), Lang, Christie, J- B. Grave, Taylor, Waddell, Sinclair and Blair. Ground Committee . Messrs Potter (convener), Sinclair, Brims, Procter, Liddell, Blair and Beid.
Committee to draft list of judges : Messrs J. M, Brown (convener), A. J. Grave, _Mobb, Potter, Sinclair, Taylor, D. Brown, Aitkoo, Gardiner, Blair, M'JLennan and Macdonald, Privileges Committee: Messrs Potter, (convener), Aitken, J. M. Brown, Waddell, Taylor and Bee. Ways and Means Committee: Messrs Grave (convener), Christie, Taylor, Grant, Reid, Macdonald and Lang. The amount voted for the programme was fixed at L 230, and the Programme Committee were recommended not to exceed this amount. The Chairman reported a deficib of 8a od on the Ingleside. It was decided to pay the amount out of the previous Ingleside surplus. Ib was decided to meet fortnightly in future.
