Government Life Insurance Department's annual report states that although the market price of • Government aiid other securities has 'naturally fallen owing to the war, the Department has. been able to write down its securities to the lowest quotation,-and' at-the same time to maintain tho high' level of bonus allotted on previous occasions. The policies valued numbered 52,273, and sums assured amounted to £13,797,075. The'surplus, after adding £75,458 to the.investment fluctuation' reserve, amounted to £222,065. The individual bonuses range from 21s to 33s per .cent on the original sum assured, according to the amount of previous bonuses, the total of the reversionary bonuses so allotted amounting to £338.760. The funds of the Department on December 31st were £5.033,883, in addition to £189,121 set aside to meet, possible depreciation in assets.
