Counsel explained that accuseds lapse was due to unfortunate -speculation. "When the war started he immediately volunteered and went to Kgypl, earning- the good opinions of his officers, who were willing to take him back. Restitution of the amount, would be made, and counsel asked that Curtis be allowed to return, to tlio. war. The Chief .Justice said that if theDefence Department- would take accused back he would probation.
