ARMED FORCES BOARD

HOME GUARD APPEALS The No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board was occupied yesterday in hearing applications for release from the Home Guard. The chairman (Mr D. C. Cameron) presided, and associated with him were Messrs J. C. H. Somerville and W. K. Clarke. The following appeals were allowed:— Otago Co-operative Milk Supply, Ltd., for ,T. A. Johnston, assistant manager: G. Methven and Co.. Ltd., for L. McConnell, works manager: L. C. Robertson, a clerk; F. Ferguson, a plumber; C. L. Chettleburgh, a storeman’s assistant; F. W. Connor, a chimney sweep; University of Otago, for G. Elmes, a janitor; H. G. Hodges, a coal merchant. The following appeals were dismissed; — A. L. Stanton, a company director and manager: G. Methven and Co., Ltd., for S. S. Vallis, a secretary: Mackintosh Caloy Phcenix, Ltd., for G. S. Gibbs, a carpenter: W. L. Aynsley, a company director: J. Butel, a school teacher; D.1.C., Ltd., for G. Kidd, a commercial traveller; W. J. Jones, a manager; R. D. Pollock, a storekeeper; N.Z. Tablet Company, Ltd., for A. B. Carter, editor; H. W. Wilson, a commercial traveller; Burroughs Adding Machine Company, for F. Pink, an inspector; Claude Neon Company, for L. M. Fahey, ff a manager. The following appeals by Stevenson and Cook were adjourned until March 31, 1943;—W. A. Roche, a boilermaker; A. Cla;k, a boilermaker's assistant; J. A. Mackenzie, a labourer. An appeal by F. E. Kesteven, a farmer, was adjourned until November 20 next, and an adjournment for six months was granted in an appeal by J. A. Henderson, a clerk.
