OBITUARY
MR JAMES CHERRY
Mr James Cherry, whose death occurred on Saturday last at • the age of 80 years, was a well-known resi-| dent of Belleknowes. Born at Kilsyth, Scotland, he spent some time in Melbourne before he calne to Dunedin, where he had resided for 63 years. For many years he was employed as a tailor by Mr Adam Smith in Moray place. He was also a keen gardener. Mr Cherry is survived by three sons and three daughters—Messrs Daniel Cherry, of Mossburn; James Cherry, of Dunedin; and William Cherry, of Wellington; and Mesdames James Gallan, E. V/. Patton, and Norrie Sutherland—and also by 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. MR JOHN READ (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. The death has occurred of Mr John Read, aged 68. Mr Read came to New Zealand in 1901, and was prominently associated with the Labour movement. He held the position of president of the Trades and Labour Council, and was a member of the executive of the Labour Representation Committee. He was a director of the Centennial Exhibition. and latterly was a member of the National Council of the Patriotic Fund Board. He served for 18 months as a city councillor.
