THE NEW STEAMER TOFUA

ANOTHER LAR/GE CARGO STEAMER BUILDING.

DUNEDIN, Sept. 21. •It has been finally decided that the steamer which is building for the Union Company for the South Sea Islands* trade is to be named the Tofua. She is being built at Denny's yard {Dumbarton), and her principal measure-ments-will be 250 ft. by 48ft. by 30ft. Her gross tonnage will be 4200 tons, and she will have engine power capable of developing a speed of 14 knots, with accommodation for 100 first-class passengers and 50 second-class will be provided. Delivery by "the builders will be .given early next year, and the vessel wild arrive here in good time for the next Islands passenger season. It has also been decided to give the name Waitemata to the large cargo steamer which is in course.of construction for the company by William Hamilton, and is of. port Glasgow. This y<?s T sel's principal dimensions are 41oft. t;y 54ft. by 30Jft. She is designed to carry 8500 tons dead weight on a draught of 24ft. 3in., at a speed of 104 knots. Delivery, is to be given in March.
