Dr. Porritt has returned to Wanganui after a lengthy trip to the Old Country. .- . Among the passengers on the Atnenic, which is due at Wellington on Wednesday morning next from London, are Mr W. Andrews, -Miss M. H. Aitken, and Mrs. M.. Clifton-Mogg, of. Wanganui. Mr: Richings Grant, Director of the Timaru Technical School is spending his holidays in Wanganui. The Taranaki " Herald" says:—Mr. Pv. Crockett, of Carrington lload, who has been stationed in New. Plymouth for some years as a noxious weeds inspector, is about to leave for Wanganui, having been appointed a dairy inspector for that district. He will enter on his new duties .at the opening of the new year. Mr. Crockett is a practical dairyman and twice "won a champion shield at the Hawera Show. Moreover, he is tactful, and his appointment should prove a wise one. Consequent upon the retirement of the Chief Engineer of Railways, Sir Joseph Ward has announced the following changes: —J. Burnett, Inspecting Engineer, to be Chief Engineer; F. McLean, District Engineer, Dunedin, to be inspecting Engineer, (Wellington; H. Macandrew,. District Engineer, Ohristchurch, to be transferred to Dunedin; O. Biss, District Engineer, Wanganui. transferred to Christchurch; F. J. Jones, District Engineer, AVellington, transferred to Wanganui; F. E. Widdop. District Engineer, Greymouth, transferred to Wellington; C. M. Benzoni, Assistant Engineer, Wellington, transferred to Greymouth.
