SCOTTISH MINERS' FEDERATION
A REVOLUTIONARY SPEECH
(United Press Association—Copyright.} (Received December 30, 10.20 p.m.) . LONDON, December 30.
Mr Smellie, President, addressing the Scottish Miners' Federation Conference, referred unfavourably to the conditions regarding -workhouses in Scotland and Westphalia. Ho emphasised tho Large and growing army of unemployed in Glasgow and other industrial centres; urged the Government to deal with the unemployed; and denied the epithet "robbery" applied to the proposal to restore stolen property to rightful owners. (Cheers.) It was true that the salvation of the country lay through Socialism ; through holding the land, raihvays and mines as a means of production ahd work on behalf of the whole people, instead of private profit for a few. (Cheers.) All holders of land and wealth were, against them, and it would be to the workers' interest if they could secure what tli-ese people possessed at present. (Cheers.)
