LORD CURZON.

WISHES TO ENTER HCTtTSE OF

LORDS,

A LETTER TO THE IRISH PEERS

(United Press Association —Copyright (Received December 3"0, 9.50 p.m.) LONDON, December 30.

With Lord Abercorn and Lord Londonderry's warm support, Lord Curzon, in a letter to the Irish Peers, agrees to stand for the vacancy due to Lord Kilmarne'a death. He explains that tho strain of his work in India prevents him seeking a, seat in the House of "Commons, and adds that ho is debarred from entering the House of Lords by the ordinary channels, owing to* Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerrnan's refusal to 'allow1 him to sit with all the other exVioeroys of India on those benches.

"The Times" considers Lord Curzon's claims to a seat in thei House of Lords aro too clear to need argument. When lie accepted the Vice-Royalty his ambition was to return to the House of Commons. In view of that intention, an Irish Peerage was conferred on him, instead of, as originally intended, a peerage of the United Kingdom. It would have been, a graceful and becoming act on the part of Sir Henry Camp-bell-Bannermaii to have acceded to the natural.andl reasonable representations advanced in favour of allowing Lord Curzon to sit in the House of Lords. Th© paper trusts the Irish- Peers will restore to piiblic life the man of eminence whom Sir Henry Campbell-Ban-nerman shuts out.
