.AUCKLAND, December 7
A meeting of the Professorial Board of the Auckland Universitywas held Ihis aftexr.pon for the purpose of selecting this year's Auckland candidate for tho. Rhodes Scholarship. There was only one applicant, Mr V. G. Aldridge, whom tho Board decided to select. The Auckland representative for the Rhodes honours is the sixth and., youngest son of Mr George Aldridge, of Auckland, who has been for twenty-five years pastor of tho Church of.Christ at Newton. Tho young- student was born in Auckland," and lias not. yet attained his majority. He'jhas gained his B.Sc, and has the distinction of being the first to win in ono year three senior scholarships since the preceut regulations came into force in 1883.
Tlie Professorial Board has nominated Hector Mac Lean, M.A., as the O-tago University'is candidate for the Rhodes scholarship for the current year. He took first-class honours in mental science. Professor Gilray replaces Mr Benham on tho Rhodes Scholarship. Selection Committee.
