GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
The Government, has decided to build the new Government House at Mount Vie-vy,- on a site now occupied hv a mental. ■Vsylum. .The Wellington Hospital Reserve and the Home for .the Aged Needy are in the vicinity, but the site commands extensive pro?pects, and is otherwise suitable. For the new Parliament Hone© competitive "designs will be .invited; but the new Government House will apparently be designed Jby the^ Government Architect. There may ■; be- reason to regret -fin's later; as lit is intended to spend £25>0G0 on the building. Of cojirse, the Government Architect may succeed iri designing a beautiful building, but the average of his past performances does not tend to make it sewn probable. And .a fine building is desirable. The' Governor represent?:' the King, and quite #e^ o.nently distinguished - people enjoy the Governor's hospitality. The Governor should bo housed in.some building that wil! do "credit to the Dominion. .
Anyhow, its fully time that'the House was built. ; It seems a deplorable thing that Lord Plunket should roam about tho cotmtry with no place of his.own to sleep in.
