The acceptance by the Hon. Herbert Nicholls of tho third Tasmanian judgeship will come as a surprise to most peoplo who know the man. He is only forty, nnd for some years he has been doing xvell at the bar. He is a hardened 1 athlete, and was one of the most ardent of the young Federalists prior to the inauguration of the Commonwealth Famous as a long-distance walker and mountaineer, an enthusiastic yachtsman and a confirmed lover of the open, one would have thought him the last man likely to accept a judgeship.
