Sir,—Just a word on the local musical societies. Are1 the public getting value for the subscriptions collects. 1? Tho Choral Society has been in existence two years, and called for two subscriptions, and produced two short cantatas, eked out with a few 5,.) os, etc; To-morrow's programme- -miscellaneous —is announced as the first of l.'ie new season. Snvo'v it is time an effort was made to •unalgamate the local societies and '.he services of a capable profession con due toi secured. We have several suitable mer resident here. Cheapness in this department is fatal to musical art, i.k mediocrity in music is insufferable.— Yours, etc.,
