A CRISIS.
(United Proas Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY, December 3. A Labour Party caucus formulated a. proposal for the settlement of tho strike.
The nature of1 the proposal is secret, but it will be submitted to the strike congress today.
Mr.Wade's interviews with Messrs Learinoath and Hughes were fruitless.
Action is being taken to-day to appoint a board under the Industrial Disputes Act to deal with the trouble.
Although the strike congress decided that tho Palmero's coal should be handled, the Coal Lumpers' Union is not altogether satisfied, holding that the importation of coal would be a blow at the southern mines, which have the contract to supply the Peninsular steamers. Mr Hughes states that the situation is critical, and everything depends on the next 24 hours whether there will be settlement or a great industrial cataclysm.
