MUSICAL SOCIETIES.

To t!ie Editor Sir—Mr W. H. McCaul, s:cretarv ot tho Wangauui Orchestral' Society h«s not collected subscriptions for 1910. Well, I hold receipts for 1909 and 1910, tho latter paid just recently, and I can mention quite a number or subscribers sinulary situated, and others that have ret used to pay the last subscription. P urther the collector distinctly told me tho subscription was for 1910, and thinking the Society required the money I good-naturedly paid. lam m;t concerned about the methods adopted by the Society, but inquiry will satisfy Mr McCaul as to the "above facts. Our respected Dr Hatherly has touched upon no controversial matters worthy of notice, and I will only point out that Mr Peck was a highly trained nrofessional musician, and think when ho resigned it is a matter for regret that he should have made any recommendation or suggestion as to his successor. lam sorry my letter was published just before the last concert, as for a long time past, in my opinion, the mutual admiration element has besn predominant in Wanganui musical circles. For anyone to urge that a professional musician would not get better results than an enthusiast who devotes spare moments to the business is the height of absurdity.—l am, etc. TRUE ART.
