COUNCIL OF CHURCHES.
The executive of the Wanganui Council of Churches met in St. Paul's Classroom yesterday. ' The" President (Rev1 E. Drake) reported re Sunday night concerts in th& Opera Hoi/se/and the-following; resolution was carried unanimously : — "That this executive of the Wanganui Council of Churches thanks the Borough Council for the resolution passed at its last meeting refusing to letthe Opera House on Sundays." A telegram having been received from the Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward: re canteens at military encampments, which was considered very unsatisfactory, it was resolved to wire to him aii'd also tt> Mr Hogan (the member forthe district) as follows:— ' "That thisi meeting of the Wangauur Council of Churches having- considered' the telegram from the Right Hon. tlm Premier in reply to resolutions passed in the • local churches relative to canteens for the supply of intoxicatingliquors in military gatherings pledges; itself to oppose in every, constitutional manner compulsory military training if liquor is to be supplied or sold in the^ encamtnnents.
