WAIROA, December 7

Evidence ut the inquest on the drowning of the half-caste girl a named Silk, aged 4^ years, showed that the child, while playing, slipped, into the river. The mother jumped into the flooded river and rescued the body a quarter of a mile-from the scene. The parents are half-castes, and in their grief forgot to report to the police. A verdict of accidental death was returned, with a rider drawing attention to the laxity of natives in reporting sudden deaths.
