NELSON. December 6
A dwelling and workshop at Takaka, owned by Mrs S. J. Reilly, and occupied, by J. Mirandez, was destroyed by fire yesterday. The buildings were' insured for £250 and Mirandez's effects for £100.
AT GREYMOUTH
GREYMOUTH, December 7. A fire occurred at three o'clock this morning in a factory recently erected for the Fresh Food and Ice Company, which was completely gutted, damaging most of' the machinery to a certain extent, sufficient to stop churning for several weeks. No cause- is assigned for the fire having originated in the store-room. The manager and two hands worked in the dairy till 9.30 p.m. yesterday, finishing up churning, after which they washed their factory clothes. Arrangements have been made to send the cream to a neighbouring factory till the repairs are effected. The building is to be renewed at the close of the season. The insurances total £1.600. in the Atlas Office, on the building and plant.
