PERSONAL.

A London cable announces the death of Frederick Greenwood, the wellknown author and journalist. Mr Botha has had a serious recurrence of his old malady, and has been ordered a prolonged rest. A Nelson wire says that Mr E. F. Burrell, an old resident of Tahuna, had an apoplectic seizure while driving in the city yesterday and fell out of his trap, being picked up dead.

Mr E. Allen, ex-M.P. for Chalmers, died on Saturday afternoon, says a Dunedin wire. Deceased first entered Parliament in 1866 and represented the constituency until last year, when he was defeated at the second ballot. He resided in Port Chalmers for over 30 years, and took an active interest in the welfare of the district. He was Mayor of the borough for about 11 years, and has been chairman of the Dock Trust for 19 years, and a member of the Harbour Board since 1888. He is survived by one daughter and three sons.
