RANGATATJA SCHOOL PICNIC.

The annual school picnic was held on Friday in the "clearing." and notwithstanding the fact that the forenoon was anything but favourable for picnicking, a large number of parents and children turned out, fully 200 "Being on the, ground during the afternoon. The children assembled at the school' at 11 a.m.. and under the guidance of the two teacherSj proceeded to the grounds.. The school committee are to bo commended for their thoughtful arrangements. As soon as the children arrived lunch was served up. Provisions wereplentiful and full justice was done the children in particular enjoying themselves. From 1.30 to 3.30 p.m. the tim© was devoted to children's races and amusements for the small "children. A nail driving competition for ladies was also on the programme, and this item was very closely contested. Some of the ladies proved to be expert at the game. At 3.30 p.m. the prizes were distributed. The Rev Martin made a few appropriate remarks and called on Mrs Sigley (wife of 'the Chairman of the school committee), to <rive the prizes out. The following children received prizes:—
