MARTON NOTES.

MARTON RETAILERS* ASSOCIATION. (From Our Own Correspondent) A general meeting of the Murton Retailors’ Association was held on Saturday evening, Mr. A. L. Scott presiding over a good attendance. A resolution was passed, and it was to be forwarded to the postmaster at Marton: "That the Retailers’ Association are not satisfied with the present working of the Telephone Exchange. particularly the lack of attention given to calls during business hours. It appears to the Association that the exchange is understaffed. A motion was passed thanking the Marton Fire Brigade for the magnificent efforts on the occasion of the recent fire, when the brigade succeeded in saving many properties which ’«ere endangered. A letter was received from the Marton Borough Council, asking if the association would undertake the collection of funds for a new bell tower. It was decided that the reqnest be acceded to, and a committee consisting of Messrs Seott, Shine, and Grnc-e were appointed to go into the matter. A letter was forwarded to the Minister of Justice asking that the Magistrate's Court sittings be held fortnightly instead of monthly as at present, and also that a resident Clerk of Court be appointed. It was decided to ask the postmaster to have a light placed in the private box lobby for the convenience of box-holders. FLOCK HOUSE BOYS. The first draft of orphaned sons of British seamen to be trained as farmers at Flock House station by the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Acknowledgement of debt to BBritish Seamen Fund will arrive from England by the Remflera towards the end of the present month, and the trustees would be very pleased to receive gifts of books (agricultural, technical, historical, travel, and fiction), indoor and outdoor games, musical instruments, etc. for the use of the boys. Gifts could be sent to Mrs. E. M. Kitcat, matron, Flock House station, Bulls; Mr. H. A. Goodall. Bulls; Mr. E. B. Watson, secretary of the fund, Young’s Buildings, Palmerston North, or to any of the branches of Messrs Levin and Co., Dalgety and Co., or N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Ltd.
