ROCKEFELLER’S GIFT

TO BE USED IMMEDIATELY. LONDON, June 9. Mr J. D. Rockefeller, junr., recently a million dollars to reconstruct the palaces at Versailles and Fontainbleu and the cathedral at Rheims. The Morning Post’s Paris correspondent says that the Franco-American committee which is administering the gift has decided to utilise seven million francs (one-third of the gift) immediately. One million francs will be devoted to repairing the roof and angel tower of Rheims Cathedral and re-es-tablishing the superstructure to the state before the bombardment. Reinforced concrete will be used in order to avoid danger of fire. Two million francs will be expended at Fontainebleau and four millions at Versailles. The gift, at the present exchange rate, represents between nineteen and twenty million francs.
