JUBILEE SHOW
AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETS The fihs.t meeting oi’ (.he Advisory Committee, appointed by the Wanganui Agricultuial Association to organise special features for the furthcoming Diamond Jubilee Show on November 7 and 8, was held on Friday. Those present were Messrs. R. Earley, E. Ziesler, T. B. Wlight, AV. J. Cooper, A. B. Donaldson and Mr. K. Armstrong (secretary). Air. A. B. Donaldson was unanimously appointed chairman of the commit! ee. A scheme for obtaining special prizes to commemorate the Diamond .jubilee Show was agreed upon, and the sum oi £5OO is to be the aim of the committee. It was decided to approach representative Alaoris with the object of inaugurating competitions for Maoris in pot dancing and hakas to be held in the evening of People’s Day at the show. Delegates were appointed for this purpose. It is consideied that such a competition will do much to promote amongst the younger Maoris a love for the historical ceremonies of their forefathers and will no doubt be of tremendous interest to their pakeha friends. Air. Taiti to Tomo, AI.P., is to be asked to act as judge of the competitions. Tiio committee unanimously decided to stage a huge electrical exhibition in the Home Industries Building. The honorary architect, Air. T. James, is to be asked to prepare a plan of the space available. Indications are that the demand for space at this exhibition will severely tax the accommodation available. An effort is to be made to procure for exhibition an electrical robot. This wonderful machine has caused tremendous interest wherever it has been shown and, as far as can bo ascertained, it will be the fir t of its kind to appear in the Dominion. It ■was reported that one of the largest British Electrical Engineering Companies had already enquired as to the space available and had promised to put on an extensive display of their wares. In future the monthly meeting of the executive committee will commence punctually at 10 a.m., so that the business may be completed by noon, thus enabling farmer members to attend the stock sales. A suggestion book is available to the members of the committee ami tho gcner.nl public and suggestions for improving the annual show will be welcomed. Several suggestions already made are being considered and will be further discussed at lhe. next meeting of the Advisory Committee, which will meet every third Monday in future to continue the organising work. Satisfaction was expressed by the chairman at tho progress already made, and ho stated that it was very evident that the public, of AVanganui and district had begun to take a real interest in tho progress of the association. There could be no doubt, ho said, that tho forthcoming Diamond Jubilee Show would place the association on the map once again.
