THE REVEREND Mr. NICHOLL, L.S.S.T.
In our last number we inserted a letter from the Rev. Mr. Nichoil, L. S. S. T.; (whatever that may mean,) in defence of the Wangauui native school in his charge, Our space is so much occupied this week with the Rev. Archdeacon Hadfield, that we shall postpone our reply to Mr. Nichoil till next week. The Rev. Arthur Baker's letter in our Wednesday's paper will also require a few remarks, which it shall have.
Those clerical gentlemen are becoming so pugnacious and their style is so peculiar to themselves, that we propose to engage a Sub Editor of their own profession to take charge of that department of our paper. He must be a perfect master of that dialect of the English language which is spoken in the neighbourhood of the Gate of Billing; and not squeamish as to how he throws its most vigorous terms at the heads of his opponents. We propose also to confine our controversies with these Reverend gentlemen to a Supplement; for which a separate charge will be made so that fathers of families, may purchase our principal sheet, without the risk of the Rev. gentlemen's letters meeting the eyes of the domestic circle.
