Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives Friday, the Bth Day of July, 1949 Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of nine members, to consider all petitions from Ato L which may be referred to it; to classify and prepare abstracts of such petitions in such form and manner as shall appear to it best suited to convey to this House all requisite information respecting their contents, and to report the same from time to time to this House ; and to have power to report its opinions and observations thereon to this House: the Committee to consist of Mr. Chapman, Mr. Gerard, Mr. Hanan, Mr. Hudson, Mr. McAlpine, Mr. Moohan, Mr. Shand, Mr. Walls, and the mover." —(Hon. Mr. Parry.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1948 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.)

No. 2—Petition of C. E. H. Ball Praying for the right to transfer from the staff of the State Advances Corporation. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 27th July, 1949.
No. 4/1948 —Petition of G. H. R. Fraser Praying for effect to be given to the report and recommendation of the Public Petitions A to L Committee of 11th August, 1948, regarding his petition for relief. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 27th July, 1949.

Leckie and Others Praying for all ratepayers and householders of the City of Timaru to be brought within the area of the Municipal Electricity Department for supply purposes. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. It is the opinion of this Committee that the question of the jurisdiction of Power Boards and municipal authorities should be a matter for consideration and decision by the Local Government Commission. 25th August, 1949.
No. 16 —Petition of E. D. Esdaile and Others Praying that the Tauranga Borough Council supply electric power to the whole area included within its jurisdiction. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. It is the opinion of this Committee that the question of the jurisdiction of Power Boards and municipal supply authorities should be a matter for consideration and decision by the Local Government Commission. 25th August, 1949.
