No. 98.—Petition of Hurinui Apanui and 21 Others. Petitionees pray that legislation may be granted in order that all grievances in connection with the Whakatane lands may be settled. I have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government, with a view to having the necessary legislation brought in. 28th July, 1892.

Petitionee complains that, owing to the operation of the Native-land laws, he has been debarred from getting possession of certain lands purchased by him from the Natives. He prays for relief. I am directed to report that, as this petition refers to a matter which requires special legislation, the Committee is of opinion the same should be referred to the Government, with that end in view. 29th July, 1892.
