No. 304.—Petition of Tamihana te Karu and Another. Petitioners pray that a rehearing may be granted in connection with the Ngarara Block. On making full inquiry into the matter of this petition, the Committee found that the petitioners had signed documents which in effect consented to the allocations made by the Native Land Court—in fact, that they had made themselves party thereto. I am therefore directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 23rd August, 1892. [Translation.]

No. 297.—Petition of M. T. Eeueti and 48 Others. Petitioners pray that the road between Portobello and the Otago Head settlement may be properly formed by prison labour. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 23rd August, 1892.

No. 284.—Petition of Waltee James Hunt. Petitionee alleges that he has met with serious losses through the laws passed in connection with the Ngarara Block. He prays for redress. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation, to make in connection with this petition. 24th August, 1892.

No. 194.—Petition of Kararaina Peea and 5 Others. Petitionees allege that when the subdivision of the Oturoa Block was made the wrong portions were conveyed to the different claimants. They now pray for investigation in order that the matter may be adjusted. I am directed to report that this petition should be referred to the Government, and that the Committee is of opinion the matter would be satisfactorily set at rest by the adoption of Judge Mackay's recommendation contained in the file of papers connected with the case now in the possession of the Native Land Court —namely, " That the matter be referred to the Chief Judge, with a view to devise some means of affording the relief prayed for, either by authorising an informal inquiry, or in any other manner that may be deemed advisable and appropriate to meet the requirements of the case." 16th August, 1892.
