No. 377. —Petition of Aeama Kaeaka Mokonuiaeangi and 66 Others. Petitionees pray for exemption from the dog-tax. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with reference to this petition. 23rd September, 1892.

No. 374. —Petition of Eetieeti Tapihana. Petitionee complains that, in consequence of the Maoris not being represented on the County Council, they are unable to obtain a share of the contracts for road-making, and that roads principally used by the Natives are for the same reason neglected. He prays that this state of affairs may be remedied. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with reference to this petition. 23rd September, 1892.

No. 341. —Petition of Hoani Meihana and Others. Petitionees call attention to their petition of last year in connection with the Pahiatua Block, and ask that the prayer of same may be granted, or that the recommendation of this Committee—namely, that 7,625 acres be paid for at the rate of 10s. per acre —be carried into effect. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion the recommendation of last session should be carried into effect, and they therefore recommend that this petition be referred to the Government with that end in view. 23rd September, 1892. —

The Native Land (Validation op Titles) Bill. No. 405.—Petition of Joseph Feancis Studholme. Petitionee alleges that, in consequence of the improper action of a Chief Judge of the Native Land Court in privately dismissing certain applications for rehearing, the title to a large area of land purchased by Messrs. Studholme Brothers in the Mangaohane Block has been rendered valueless. He prays that legislation may be enacted to enable the determination of the rights of those Natives whose applications were wrongfully dismissed, and also for the purpose of validating the title now held by himself and brothers.
