I have the honour to report that the Committee recommend that the Government should make inquiries into the allegations of the petitioner, and grant such relief as may seem necessary. 20th August, 1895.

No. 82.—Petition of Waingaeunui and 16 Others. Petitionees pray that their claims to certain reserves near Waitara, in the Taranaki District, may be recognised. I have the honour to report that as the petitioners have, through no fault of their own, been left out of the reserves the}' lay claim to, and as they have not sufficient land for their support, the Committee recommend that the Government should make full inquiry into their case and grant them some relief. 20th August, 1895.

No. 26.—Petition of Inia Tuhuru and 25 Others. Petitionees pray that " The Westland and Nelson Native Eeserves Act, 1887," may be so amended as to allow the Public Trustee to hand over certain funds, in connection with the Arahura reserves, to the Native owners. 1 have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion that to give effect to the prayer of the petition it would be necessary to provide fresh legislation. This being the case, they recommend that the Government should make such inquiry as will enable it to determine whether such a step would be in the interests of the petitioners. 20th August, 1895.

No. 691, 1894. —Petition of Meeania Kanawhai and 40 Others. Petitionees allege that the sale of the Kakiraawa Block No. 5 was irregular, and that they are left with insufficient land for their support. They pray for investigation and relief. I have the honour to report that the Committee find there is no evidence to show any irregularity in the transaction referred to. They would, however, recommend that the Government, after due inquiry, set aside a small area of Crown land for the occupation and support of the petitioners. 20th August, 1895.
