GOVERNMENT ADVANCES TO SETTLERS ACT. (RETURNS SHOWING PARTICULARS OF APPLICATIONS FOR LOANS UNDER, HOW DEALT WITH, AND THE APPOINTMENTS AND EMOLUMENTS OF VALUERS.)

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 28th June, 1895. Ordered, " That a return be laid before this House showing the number of applications for loans under the Advances to Settlers Act for the purpose of paying off existing mortgages, and the number of such applications granted."—(Mr. J. W. Kelly.) Returns to Orders of the House of Representatives dated sth July, 1895. Ordered, " That a return be laid before this House showing the number and amount of applications for advances received by the Boa.rd under the Advances to Settlers Act from each European electoral district of the colony; also the number and amounts of advances granted, or agreed to be granted, in every such electoral district."—(Mr. B. McKenzie.) Ordered, " That a return be laid before this House showing—(l) The Gazette notices of all appointments by the Governor of Valuers under 'The Government Advances to Settlers Act, 1894'; and (2) the persons in each district to whom applications were sent for valuation, and the amount intimated as the fee' to be paid to each such person."— (Mr. G. Hutchison.) Ordered, " That a return be furnished to the House by the Lending Board of the advances to settlers, showing the number of applications made by intending borrowers; showing the amounts applied for; nature of security offered ; whether Joan granted or refused—up to the close of the 30th June." —(Hon. Mr. Larnach.) Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 12th September, 1895. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing the number of advances made under ' The Advances to Settlers Act, 1894,' up to the end of July, and giving the amount advanced in each electoral district; also the number of applications refused in each electoral district; also the amount of fees received from unsuccessful applicants in each electoral district." —(Mr. McLaohlan.)

Applications for Advances up .to 30th June, 1895. Number of advances applied for on freehold securities, 1.345; amounting to £713,159. Number of advances applied for on leasehold securities, 779 ; amounting to £155,579. Number of advances applied for on freehold and leasehold securities combined, 32 ; amounting to £15,715.
